2009 Business Awards Gala
Tuesday
October 20
Enfield Legion, 6:30pm
The
Chamber's Events Committee once again offered an enjoyable event for
this year's Awards, celebrating excellence and achievement in our local
businesses and groups. This year's theme of 'Casino Royale' was
embraced by attendees, many of whom 'glammed' up their outfits and
enjoyed the various games of chance - all just for fun of course!
The Paul
Simons Duo provided light music as a pleasant background to the three
course meal and the on-going networking, while donation of many great
items and services by local business allowed for a steady stream of
prize draws to lucky attendees. Our 50/50 Draw garnered over $250
dollars, with Mike Campbell of
CBDC
being the lucky winner of half, while Chamber donated the remaining
funds to our local food bank,
Caring & Sharing
Angel Tree, accepted by President Margaret Johnson at
right...
The
last award of the evening was the Chamber's own Tom Parker Award,
received this year by Susie McDonell of
Catering Unlimited,
who was struck almost speechless by the win. The Chamber is
particularly proud of a new one-of-a-kind trophy this year, a striking
wooden whale's tail hand carved by member
Jennifer Marlow.
Many
thanks as well to the Enfield Weekly Press for their two page centre
coverage of the
Gala
(pdf format high speed recommend.)

Kick off
the Summer Family event
Chamber
treated their members with a great kick-off to summer at the Lions Club
Grounds near Enfield the evening of
June 24th.
Rain held off, the grounds were in
fine shape, and the food and fun was plentiful. Members could play a
variety of games with the kids along with enjoying the pond & playground on
the grounds. The games field behind the Lions Den was spacious enough
for kite flying, while in front lots of food was eaten but very
little business was done!
Look up in the
sky - it's a shark!
 |
 |
 |
|
Bubbles & balloons decorated the area where the kids played... |
while Catering Unlimited ran a hot & cold buffet line under
canvas... |
that processed the picnic-ers through in an easy manner. |

Tourism
Symposium - Thursday February 26 - co-sponsored by EHDCC
Tourism
Tomorrow was the theme of a full day symposium &
reception hosted at the beautiful
Tidal Bore Rafting Park in Urbania on East Hants's Fundy
shore. The venue was elbow-to-elbow with representatives from many
county tourism industry businesses and groups.
A morning wakeup of coffee and fresh baked pastries were
followed by presentations by industry players such as the NS Department of
Tourism, Hants Regional Development Authority, CNTA, TIANS, ACOA and others,
and several intensive brainstorming sessions by the roomfull of working
groups. Plenty of breaks allowed participants time to take in the
fresh air and stunning riverside view on a brilliant NS winter day.
Round robin presentations were made by each group
identifying current tourism strengths and challenges within East Hants, as
well as future goals and dreams. Frequent recognition was made of the
many entrepreneurs and groups who are already so active in the industry
while neighbouring counties were not forgotten in planning.
Work continued after lunch at the same fast pace, fresh
food was plentiful throughout, and service by the host venue excellent.
The evening culminated in a post-symposium reception, sponsored by the
Chamber, where the networking and brainstorming continued unabated,
accompanied by a selection of hot and cold hors'doeurves by Chamber member
Catering Unlimited.
A good number of Chamber business were represented at the
Symposium and at least four Board members attended.
Event sponsors East Hants Office of Economic Development,
Hants RDA and East Hants Chamber welcomed prize donations generously
provided by East Hants businesses including
The Tidal Bore Rafting Park,

Wednesday
Jan 28/09 7:00pm to 9:00 - After Hours Social -
Strides
Health & Fitness Centre Elmsdale.
Mother
Nature may have been doing her 'winter thing' again that did not deter more
than two dozen dedicated members old and new from coming out for the first
official Chamber event of 2009! It may have been cold and messy
outside but inside Strides fresh hot coffee and tea combined with
subdued lighting to provide a cozy retreat from the elements.
Decorated with bright bunches of balloons and fresh flowers in Stride's
'warm' corporate colours, a generous buffet provided guests with many
choices of tasty nibblies, from healthy fresh veggies & fruits with dips, to
protein-rich cheeses & meats. And oh yes, a heaping platter of a
variety of baked goods to satisfy any sweet tooth.
Strides
Owner Leslie Wilber-Campbell and her staff were on hand to welcome visitors
and answer any questions they might have. A display table provided a
wide selection of brochures and info sheets on the clubs' many programs,
while a guided tour of the entire MacMillian Centre was well received.
