First Impression – Your Job Posting
If you want a job seeker to even consider applying for a position with your company or organization, you need to make your job posting attractive. What are the perks while working in your company? It’s a competitive labour market out there folks and we’re in it for the long haul. There’s no quick fix, but you can do your best to attract talent by pulling out all the stops.
For instance: Today’s job seekers are not necessarily all unemployed individuals, but in fact, already employed and looking for a better gig somewhere else. Do you have what it takes to attract them to your business?
I think it’s safe to say that the points of interest no longer lye in just “having a job”, but, what’s in it for them? Here are a few things that the job seeker is looking at when considering employment.
a. Pay – Is the wage/salary competitive in today’s market? (let’s face it, not too many people can afford a drop in pay these days. Even if it is the job of their dreams). Unfortunately, minimum wage just doesn’t cut it anymore. Check out this link to find out if the wage you’re offering is comparable. https://explorecareers.novascotia.ca/
b. Location – Where is the business located? Is there a work from home option? Local transportation?
c. Hours – Is there flexibility with the hours required to work? Are they strict business hours or is there an option for start and end times?
d. Benefits – This is becoming increasingly important to job seekers. What is your business offering for benefits? The perks? Incentives?
e. Workplace Culture – Yes, it’s true! People are very interested in Workplace Culture too. For example: Are you an inclusive employer? Do you take pride in hiring a diverse workforce? How do you treat your employees? Do you offer opportunities for professional and personal development?
I know what you’re thinking! You don’t have time for this and why aren’t people just grateful to have a job to go to!!!! Because my friends, times have changed and if you want to stay in the game, you too might have to change how you think about attracting and retaining your labour force.
When people are financially invested, they want a return. When people are emotionally invested, they want to contribute. Simon Sinek
